The body of a 49ers fan who went missing during a “Monday Night Football” game Nov. 12 was found in a saltwater pond several miles north of Levi’s Stadium, the City of Santa Clara confirmed in a statement.
Police confirmed that the coroner’s office identified the man as Ian Powers, 32, of Spokane, Washington.
A group of duck hunters reported seeing a body lying face down in the low-tide water some two miles from Levi’s Stadium, but it’s unclear how Powers got there. The coroner’s office determined that Powers died of saltwater drowning, and his death has been ruled an accident, according to the statement.
Powers went missing Nov. 12, when he stopped in the Bay Area en route from from Spokane to Los Angeles to attend the 49ers’ game against the Giants.
Clad in a red 49ers T-shirt and hat, he told his girlfriend that he was leaving to use the restroom and never returned, according to police. She reported him missing the following morning.
