The Cowboys have won their past two games, and Ezekiel Elliott says he’s been feeling a little lighter lately.
<p <em="“I think it just kind of naturally happened,” Elliott said Tuesday, via ProFootballTalk. “I hadn’t really been trying to lose weight, but I think I have thinned up a little bit. I’ve lost a little bit of weight. I think it’s helped. I think it’s helped just being quicker and getting in and out of space and just with my conditioning also.”
The Cowboys have been especially successful when confronted by birds of prey. In their last two victories over the Falcons and Eagles, Elliott has recorded 273 rushing yards and a total of three touchdowns. They have jumped into second place in the NFC East, and are just one game behind the Redskins, who just lost their starting quarterback Alex Smith for the season.
While Dallas has improved as of late, the rest of the pack isn’t far behind. The Eagles are just one game back from them, and the Giants are determined to run the table after their 1-7 start. Having Amari Cooper has opened the field up for Dak Prescott and Elliott. The attention he draws as a deep threat has given both of his teammates more room to operate.
The Cowboys will challenge the Redskins for the division this Thursday at 4:30 p.m. ET. In their last matchup, Washington held Zeke to just 33 rushing yards and beat Dallas 20-17. If America’s Team can capitalize on the personnel change under center, they could rise to the top very soon.
