Draymond Green didn’t expect to be suspended.
The 28-year-old Warriors forward was involved in a verbal altercation with teammate Kevin Durant during the team’s 121-116 overtime loss to the Clippers on Monday and their argument reportedly continued in the locker room after the game. The team then suspended Green for its 110-103 win over the Hawks one day later.
Green, however, “was surprised by his one-game suspension for the words exchanged with Durant and the content of what was said,” according to a report from The Athletic, which cites unidentified league sources.
The confrontation occurred after Green pulled down a rebound and dribbled the ball up the court, instead of passing to Durant. Green failed to get a shot off before the final buzzer.
Green brought up Durant’s impending free agency and told him he had won before he “came here (to Golden State),” according to The Athletic.
Durant scored 29 points in the win over Atlanta. The Warriors will face the Rockets in Houston on Thursday.
