NBA free agency rumors: Suns expected to make ‘strong push’ for Terry Rozier

The Suns continue to look for an upgrade at point guard.

Phoenix is expected to make a “strong push” to sign Terry Rozier, who will be a restricted free agent this summer, according to a report from The Ringer, which cites unidentified league sources.

The Suns tried to acquire Rozier in a trade before the season, the report says, and offered the Celtics a protected first-round pick for him. But, the deal fell apart when Boston demanded an unprotected selection, according to the report.

Rozier is averaging 8.8 points and 3.1 assists in 22.9 minutes per game in 2018-19. He’s shooting 37.6 percent from the field and 34.6 percent from 3-point range.

The Celtics originally selected Rozier out of Louisville with the 16th pick in the 2015 draft. He tallied a career-high 11.3 points per game in 2017-18.

Boston has lost five of its last six games and enters play Monday with a 38-26 record. Meanwhile, the Suns are a Western Conference worst 13-51.
