Hurricanes turn Don Cherry's rant into 'bunch of jerks' T-shirt

The Hurricanes aren’t done taking jabs at Don Cherry.

Carolina not only embraced the commentator’s epic rant opposing the team’s post-game win celebrations, but took it a step further by monetizing it.

While speaking on the “Coach’s Corner” segment during “Hockey Night in Canada” on Saturday, Cherry slammed the Hurricanes for the Viking Claps and Jose Bautista bat flips that have become popular with the franchise in recent weeks.

“These guys to me are jerks,” Cherry said. “And I’ll tell you one thing, they better not do this in the playoffs. This is a joke.”

The beef is ironic considering Cherry is known for his colorful attire yet would prefer to stifle one of the NHL’s youngest teams and the players’ attempt to be unique.

“Young men expressing themselves for joy of winning,” Cherry said. “You don’t do this thing in the National Hockey League. This is professional hockey. Are these guys jerks or something?

“If you want to do it, do it before, but that is absolutely ridiculous.”

The team tweeted in defense of their players and even revised their Twitter bio, which hilariously now reads, “That bunch of jerks with the fun celebrations.”

The Hurricanes (31-22-6) picked up their third straight win Saturday against the Stars and are now 8-2 in their last 10 games.
