NFL free agency rumors: Redskins to meet with Mark Sanchez, 2 other quarterbacks after Alex Smith’s injury

The Redskins appear set to add a quarterback.

Washington will work out free agent signal callers Mark Sanchez, EJ Manuel and TJ Yates this week, according to a report from ESPN, which cites unidentified league sources. Redskins starter Alex Smith suffered a season-ending leg injury in the team’s 23-21 loss to the Texans on Sunday.

Washington is in need of a backup to veteran Colt McCoy, who threw for 54 yards and a touchdown after replacing Smith against Houston.

Sanchez last appeared in a regular-season game in 2016 with the Cowboys. He has thrown 86 touchdowns as well as 86 interceptions in his seven-year career and led the Jets to back-to-back AFC Championship game appearances in 2009-10.

Manuel has appeared in 30 career games with the Bills and Raiders. He was released by Oakland in early September.

Yates threw four touchdowns and three interceptions in four appearances for the Texans last season.

The Redskins will face the Cowboys in Week 12 action Thursday.
