After a brief spell of optimism at the Vikings’ first practice this week, Dalvin Cook has been ruled out for Sunday’s matchup with the Jets — his third consecutive game on the sidelines.
Coach Mike Zimmer said Friday that the running back has been ruled out for the Week 7 game and didn’t offer any opinion on when he might return.
Cook hasn’t played since Sept. 27 due to a hamstring injury. He practiced Wednesday but left the field after warmups Thursday and did the same Friday morning.

His continued absence means Latavius Murray will remain Minnesota’s featured back. The veteran had 24 carries for 155 yards and a touchdown in last week’s win over the Cardinals.
“He’s a guy that needs carries and the physicality of things,” Zimmer said at a news conference Friday. “I’ve said it a million times, I like Latavius and the way he approaches the game. Typically he’s not a one-carry-every-quarter guy; he’s a guy that needs to get the football some.”
Cook has just 98 yards on 36 carries in the three games he has played this season after losing most of his rookie year to a torn ACL.
