Steelers RB James Conner has LeVeon Bell's backing from afar

Like an estranged friend, Le’Veon Bell has been showing one of his teammates support from afar.

Bell, who has not played in a game for the Steelers this season due to a contract dispute, has been watching his replacement, James Conner, tear up the league. So far, Bell likes what he’s seen.

Conner has 453 yards and seven touchdowns on the ground already this season, and he’s fresh off two straight 100-year games. Conner said Thursday on FS1 that he’s received constant support from Bell this season.

“Any time I do something good on the field, I always come back to the locker room to a text from him saying ‘good game’ or ‘nice move right there,’” Conner said, via profootballtalk.com. “Me and Le’Veon are super cool. He’s a great person. With him holding out, people are going to call him selfish, but that’s not the case at all. This is business, and that’s my guy.”

The Steelers are on bye this week, but Bell has claimed he will return to action next week. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has voiced his praise for Conner, stating he hopes he remains in the mix even if Bell returns.

Though Bell remains established as one of the best players in the NFL, his off-the-field antics and constant contract disputes have plagued his career. Conner should still play a large part this year as Bell is a free agent after the season and doesn’t look interested in remaining with the Steelers.
