2019 NFL playoffs: Sarah Thomas to become first female official in postseason game

Sarah Thomas will be part of the crew officiating the Patriots-Chargers AFC playoff game Sunday, making her the first woman to officiate in the postseason.

Thomas will join Ron Torbert’s crew as the down judge, according to Football Zebras. She already made history in 2015, when she became the first full-time female officiant in the league.

Thomas was close to having a postseason assignment two years earlier. She was named an alternate for the Atlanta Falcons-Los Angeles Rams’ wild-card playoff game in 2017.

Terri Valentini, who was the NFL’s first female replay official, also was given her first postseason gig — she will work the Colts-Chiefs game in Kansas City.
