Kareem Hunt being investigated over separate punching incident, report says

The Kareem Hunt saga continues.

According to NFL Media, the former Chiefs running back is being investigated for a separate incident in which he allegedly punched a man in the face in June.

The report noted Hunt was not arrested and does not face any charges at this time.

Hunt was released by Kansas City on Friday after video emerged of him shoving and kicking a woman in Cleveland at The Metropolitan at the 9 in February. The Chiefs acknowledged they were aware of an altercation involving Hunt, but were lied to about the details.

The league placed him on the Commissioner Exempt list and he faces more than the baseline six-game suspension for violation of the NFL’s personal conduct policy.

However, ESPN reported the NFL did not interview Hunt or the woman involved in the incident. Hunt requested an interview with ESPN, which aired Sunday, to reiterate his apology and confirm he was not questioned by the league.

Despite questions about what happened leading up to the dispute, Hunt divulged little details. He acknowledged he had never met the woman before a “disagreement” led to the altercation and first learned of the video’s existence along with the rest of the world when it was released by TMZ last week.

“Honestly, I just want to let the world know how sorry I am for my actions,” Hunt told ESPN’s Lisa Salters. “It’s been a tough time for me. I’m extremely embarrassed because of that video.”

The NFL later released a statement, confirming the “investigation began immediately following the incident in February” and that the league “continues to pursue a complete understanding of the facts.”

The video doesn’t identify the woman, but it is believed to be connected to an individual who came forward after an incident that occurred Feb. 10. According to cleveland.com, Abigail Ottinger, 19, claimed she was “pushed and shoved” during a dispute in Cleveland, alleging to police that Hunt assaulted her around 3:45 a.m. ET on a Saturday outside his hotel apartment.
